In With The Clean

I was thinking earlier this evening about an old friend.

It seems that Alex found an antique bottle that had something in it many years ago it was caked with rocks and mud and dirt, snail shells, you could barely even see the bottle but Alex had an artist’s eye. He saw the beauty beneath the dirt.

Alex brought the dirty old jar in the house and set about to claim it he scrubbed and scrubbed and spent far more time and labor than that old bottle was really worth but it was beautiful to Alex.

After a while his wife took pity on him, gently took the bottle out of his hand, put it under the cold water tap and told him, “now just wait”.

After about a half hour or 45 minutes of the water steadily pouring in all the dirt was out.

You see this is like our relationship with God, as humans we would dig and dig trying to get the dirt out. We will work so hard we may well wind up breaking the bottle. God on the other hand, doesn’t concentrate on getting the dirt out, he concentrates on getting clean water in.

You see you can’t be full of clean water and full of dirt at the same time. We are all in various stages of getting the clean water in and the dirt out. with God doing the cleaning. Concentrate on getting the clean in, getting the dirt out will take care of itself.

Besides if all we ever did was have our character defects removed all we would be is an empty shell. An empty shell the evil one would like nothing better to do then fill up.

So for today I will concentrate not so much on getting my bad traits out as I will on getting God’s good traits in. I’ll concentrate not nearly so much on living until I die.  I will concentrate on dying until I live.

Jesus said “except a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies it will not bring forth any fruit.” Something I think we would all do well to take to heart.

I have learned with great difficulty that in my walk with God, defeat is victory, to surrender as to win, to die is to live. For many people that makes no sense at all but that’s alright, I’ve also found that, to be foolish in the worlds eyes is to be wise in Gods.
